After relocating to Brooklyn in 2008 Ingrid Laubrock soon became a creative epicenter in the New York jazz scene, and is now one of the most significant voices in contemporary jazz. The new album Serpentines fits in Laubrocks musical cosmos, in which improvisational furore and compositional rigor, calculation and freedom, are intermingled. Laubrock grounded this formation with the unusual line-up having been given a carte blanche for the 2015 Vision Festival. Florian Keller writes in the liner notes: If we take the titles suggestion and use snake paths as graphs for the movement of this music, various distinctive characteristics can be determined. Via the crafty compositional and improvisational about-turns, the music spirals upwards, peaking in airy flights. Changes of direction, and rhythmic, melodic turning points drive the music on, and release dramatic potential.

Anti-House is perhaps Laubrock’s most New York-centric band, comprised of herself on tenor and soprano saxophones, guitarist Mary Halvorson, pianist Kris Davis, bassist John Hébert, and drummer Tom Rainey. Bert Noglik writes in the liner notes of this third release «Roulette of the Cradle»: «Abstraction and reification, accentuation and accumulation, laid-back and pushing. The music of this quintet thrives on strong contrasts and the tension they create. The dynamic spectrum is almost taken to its limits, a lot of things are happening simultaneously.

Anti-House is perhaps Laubrock's most New York-centric band, comprised of herself on tenor and soprano saxophones, guitarist Mary Halvorson, pianist Kris Davis, bassist John Hébert, and drummer Tom Rainey.
Anti-House has, over time, grown into a band in which the writing has become more personal – after all, Laubrock moved to New York only a scant couple of years before the first record was waxed.

After making the studio recording ""Camino Ciel Echo"", New York drummer Tom Raineys trio has now recorded a live album containing the distilled essence of numerous concerts including several European tours. Tom Rainey, born in 1957 in Santa Barbara, was known at an earlier stage of his career as an exceptional drummer. Since he moved to New York he has played with some of the heavy weights of the contemporary jazz scene including Mark Helias, Kris Davis, Tim Berne and Tony Malaby. For his own trio, he has chosen two strong female musicians. Ingrid Laubrock is a saxophonist who plays with an extraordinary sensitivity for structure and form, fusing intellect and poetry in her refined improvisations. Mary Halvorson is one of the most sought after jazz guitarist of her generation. One critic, praising this release, called it a concise lecture on the aesthetics of collective sound shaping.

Tom Rainey has been a fixture in New York's Downtown scene since the early '90s. The stalwart drummer's current efforts have found him expanding his purview, collaborating with a new generation of creative improvisers. Working on original material with young Brooklyn-based artists like Ingrid Laubrock and Mary Halvorson, Rainey continues experiments in form and structure that he originally helped pioneer with his peers, including Tim Berne, Andy Laster and Tom Varner.

"Long favored by her peers and jazz fans in the know, Davis has earned high praise from no less than star pianist and MacArthur "Genius" Grant honoree Jason Moran, who included her in his Best of 2012 piece in Art Forum, writing: "A freethinking, gifted pianist on the scene, Davis lives in each note that she plays. Her range is impeccable; she tackles prepared piano, minimalism and jazz standards, all under one umbrella. I consider her an honorary descendant of Cecil Taylor and a welcome addition to the fold." This sixth album as a leader from the Vancouver-born, Brooklyn-based Davis sees her joined by kindred spirits Ingrid Laubrock (tenor saxophone), Mat Maneri (viola), Trevor Dunn (double-bass) and Tom Rainey (drums).

The trio "Paradoxical Frog", made up of pianist Kris Davis, saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and drummer Tyshawn Sorey made a significant mark with its self-titled debut album in 2010. The three musicians, who all contribute compositions to the group, have a shared ability to create dramatic musical peaks and valleys while moving in and out of a composition in a seamless motion. This is why listeners in NY and all over the world continually seek out this unique and ever changing group. "Union" is the second take of the project, confirming that the music from their first release didn’t simply result from a happy gathering of circumstances.

Elegance and energy characterise this account of K453, Ingrid Jacoby especially attractive to listen to in her fluid and dynamic playing, crispy phrased and also affectionate without losing the Concerto s bigger picture, and most attentively accompanied by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Sir Neville Marriner. Separating such lively music-making (the playful and ultimately witty Finale brings a smile), the soulful slow movement is particularly eloquent with some very expressive contributions from woodwind soloists, and Jacoby digs deep into the music's potential.
