Covering 50 Cent, Cat Stevens, Faith Evans, and more on steelpan drums should not sound this gimmick-less. It helps that the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is, first and foremost, a strong funk ensemble. The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is a pet project of the German instrumental group the Mighty Mocambos, a practiced collective that makes versatile deep funk. Bacao is a vehicle for bandleader and guitarist Björn Wagner's dedicated enchantment with the steelpan drum, which he and three other band members play on a new debut full-length called 55.

Hoelderlin (formed as Hölderlin) started out playing cover tunes in Germany in the 1960s until they received an offer for a record contract in the early 1970s. The band was led by two brothers, Christian and Joachim Grumbkow, who wrote most of the music. The debut-album "Hölderlin's Traum" was released in 1972 with a nine-piece line up, including female vocals and instruments like the Mellotron, Grand piano, violin, cello, sitar, tablas and flute. Their sound is a progressive blend of rock, jazz and folk. Troubles soon arose when the band's producer wanted to have the band change their sound. After a long three year legal battle, the band was able to get rid of their contract, slightly change their name and release their second album, "Hoelderlin" in 1975. The band called their music 'romantic rock', it sounded more jazzy and it contained echoes from King Crimson and Genesis…

By now, most know the story of 94 East. The Minneapolis band was founded in 1975 by Pepe Wille, and included amongst its' members a precocious teenager called Prince Rogers Nelson. They made over an album's worth of recordings in 1977, which remained something of a secret until Willie released them in the mid '80s to capitalize on Prince's solo success. Here, these pioneering recordings are once again made public in tribute to the sadly departed Purple One. What's so remarkable about them isn't their high quality - you'd expect that given Prince's involvement - but rather how they sound like prototypes of the distinctive "purple funk" sound that the legendary artist later made his own. The album also includes "If You Feel Like Dancin", which is arguably one of the finest "proto-house" records ever made.

Three albums in, Florida Georgia Line carved out their own niche – part good times, part tearjerkers – but they're not staying in place. Rather, if 2016's Dig Your Roots is any indication, they're choosing to settle into a groove, sliding into their status as slowly mellowing country bros. Staring down 30, FGL still find time to have fun, but the party no longer lasts all night; it's a gentle breeze on an "Island" or a Sunday afternoon reggae sunsplash with Ziggy Marley. Such softening of the ravers puts the rest of their music in sharper relief, making it all seem sentimental. Naturally, this is a conscious effort on Florida Georgia Line's part, a reflection of their steady maturation and the realization of their natural affinity for the MOR adult contemporary of the Backstreet Boys, the former teen pop band who cameo on "God, Your Mama and Me."

Eroc (Joachim Heinz Ehrig) started his solo career in 1975 while he was currently the drummer of Grobschnitt. His self titled album can be considered as a cross between Gorbschnitt's typical symphonic amazing music and electronic/ synthscapes dominated by numerous original sound manipulations. Despite that he was originally recognised as a drummer, here Eroc is the man behind the machines, controlling solid essays in synth experimentations and electronic collages. His first album is an absolute must in Kraut/electronic genre, very abstract, emotional and a mix of different moods. This album is an opponent worthy of Klaus Schulze's first realisations in space/"kosmische" electronic music…

King Tubby the Dub Master, who's output was as prolific as it is sought after and who's presence is surely missed. We would like to take you on another dub excursion. This time through some essential cuts made for the Producer / DJ Tappa Zukie. King Tubby always added something a little special to the tracks he worked on. Producers would often bring their already tracks to his home studio at 18 Drummlie Avenue, in the Kingston district of Waterhouse.
