The Blues Brothers, formally, variously The Blues Brothers' Show Band and Revue and The Blues Brothers' Rhythm and Blues Revue, are an American blues and rhythm and blues revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedy actors Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Briefcase Full of Blues is the debut album by The Blues Brothers, released on November 28, 1978 by Atlantic Records. It was recorded live on September 9, 1978 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, when the band opened for comedian Steve Martin. The album consists of covers of blues and soul songs from the 1950s to 1970s. The album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum; according to Blues Brothers member Dan Aykroyd, the album has sold 3.5 million copies in all. It is among the highest-selling blues albums of all time…

This is a fine CD of Blues Brothers material, featuring the original Blues Brothers Band and frontman Larry Thurston, performing at Montreux Jazz Festival on July 12, 1989. From the late '80s through the early 90's, the Blues Brothers Band was a popular touring act throughout Europe, with Mr. Thurston doing a fine job on lead vocals. None of the other 90's Blues Brothers frontmen (Dan Ackroyd, John Goodman, Jim Belushi) appear on this CD or in this Line-Up. Not exactly "essential", but a good performance of the tour band during this period of the band's history.

John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Saturday Night Live characters Jake and Elwood Blues grew out of their humble TV skit origins to become a bonafide pop-culture phenomenon with their hit movie and gleeful covers of soul, blues and R&B staples. The Best of The Blues Brothers is their fourth and final recording. It culls some of their most popular hits and includes previously unreleased live versions of “Rubber Biscuit” and “Expressway To Your Heart”.
