Dickey Betts may have been fired from the Allman Brothers Band, a unit he helped not only to found, but whose very sound he helped to define, but he has been touring almost incessantly since he left the band with his own Great Southern – a moniker he has carried with him since the late '70s…

Any fan of Dickie Betts can expect surprises. Early on with the Allman Brothers, he stunned rock critics with the adventerous "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", added some country flavor to the blues-based brew with "Blue Sky" and "Ramblin' Man", and proved to be one of the premier guitarists who was also a strong singer…

After being fired from the Allman Brothers Band in 2001, a band he was a founding member of in the late '60s, Dickey Betts dealt with his pain, anger, and loss by putting together a new band, hitting the road, and issuing a new album only a few months after the dirty deed. Let's Get Together is a good-time, swinging, blues and New Orleans R&B-drenched romp through the roots of American music…

After a long layoff, Betts cut this blistering guitar rock album in a style strongly reminiscent of The Allman Brothers Band. In fact, his band contains pianist Johnny Neel and second guitarist Warren Haynes, both of whom would join the next edition of The Allmans when they re-formed; Allmans drummer Butch Trucks guests….

This is a fine straight repackaging of Dickey Betts' original incarnation of Great Southern. It's hard to imagine any fan not already owning these on CD, but then anything is possible. These two recordings were done years after the sublime Highway Call, and feature Betts wedding the laid-back country-rock of the former album to the raucous brand of soulful blues played by the Allman Brothers Band…

After the runaway success of the Allman Brothers' classic Brothers and Sisters LP – an album on which Dickey Betts virtually architected the open loping country sound with his newly found singing voice and easy, slimmed down guitar style – the guitarist decided to try his hand at a solo album. Highway Call is, in essence, the second chapter in Betts finding his own voice as not only a singer, but also as a songwriter as well…

This CD was recorded a week after the ground-breaking duo with Matthew Shipp (LEO 755 - Corpo). The presence of the bass (Michael Bisio) and drums (Whit Dickey) provide an extra lift to Matthew Shipp and Ivo Perelman. Bisio finds valuable notes in between those that makeup Shipp's chords. Dickey adds color and texture that peer into the swirl of melodies and light them from within. Ivo added new quality to his technique - muscular yet relaxed; a sort of tai chi of the saxophone.
