Tokyo's Bad Boys is the second album by sax player Joris Posthumus on Challenge Records. This album is inspired by musical encounters of Joris Posthumus with Japanese jazz artists. With each and every song, one can hear the different cultures coming together in spheres and times. The whole release is packed with speed, technical bravura, emotions and surprises. Alto saxophonist and composer Joris Posthumus has been making music since he was six years old. He studied at the conservatory of Rotterdam and Tilburg, and at the same time founded various combos. After graduating, he and his friend, the bassist Jurriaan Dekker, created The New Quartet in order to set up live projects with leading jazz musicians, including Wolter Wierbos, Martijn Vink, Ben van der Dungen and Yuri Honing.

Spearheaded by Dungen's Mattias Gustavsson along with several of Sweden's finest musicians, Our Solar System could be described as smokin' far-out kraut-jazz jams for the true heads, and In Time so effortlessly delivers trance states in sound, essentially the work of 30y hands, creating two side-length tracks of sonic energy that serves as a vehicle to reach peak experience, alternately arriving and departing from control and abandon.

It's not often a "jazz" band take the big step from the club scene to a 1300 capacity rock venue like Oslo's Rockefeller. But then again, Elephant9 is not your ordinary jazz band, often being named as Norway's best live band - surely quite rare for an instrumental band - they are equally popular in jazz and rock circles. On this, their fourth studio album, Elephant9 once again join forces with Reine Fiske - the quite excellent Swedish guitarist from Dungen and The Amazing - for an epic slice of mindblowing modern rock'n'jazz prog psychedelia. "Silver Mountain" is their finest album so far, where all the parts fall into place.

The limpid lysergic swirls and squalling fuzz-toned riffs that populate Tame Impala's debut clearly owe a hefty, heartfelt debt to the hazy churn of late-'60s/early-'70s psych rock, but the members of this Perth threesome are hardly strict revivalists. In comparison to their similarly inspired contemporaries, they chart a course somewhere between Dungen's lovingly meticulous replication of their chosen style and Malachai's deconstructive, electronically enabled pastiche of same, deftly skirting the potential for parodic excess that comes with either extreme.
