This is a must-have for the Holiday season. The set features 37 Christmas classics on 2 discs and is the perfect stocking stuffer for any rocker on your Christmas list. Gary Hoey is vastly underrated as a guitarist, mostly because he insists on doing the things he likes. That includes hanging out in the fairly exclusive country of instrumental guitar rock with the likes of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and includes his personal proclivity for Christmas music. This is actually his fourth Christmas release, and is a rerelease of the tracks from the first three with bonus tracks. With the exception of a few drum tracks, Gary plays virtually all the instruments on the album…

World renowned rock guitarist Gary Hoey takes on the Blues with his new album, “Deja Blues,” to released on Wazoo Music Group. “This is an album of original blues songs I’ve wanted to record for a long time. The Blues has always been near and dear to my heart, I have so much respect for it. When I’m recording a blues song, it’s a 5 minute journey and you can’t take a breath, you can’t keep punching in the recording button to fix stuff or it loses the vibe.”

Fashion is the expositor, from the standpoint of costume, of our habits and our social relations; in a word, of everything appertaining to the charm of life. Therefore to write the history of female fashion in France is a more serious task than it might seem to be at the first glance. The levity of the subject is mastered by its moral interest. Montesquieu remarks, in his "Lettres Persanes," "A certain lady takes it into her head that she must appear at an assembly in a particular costume; from that moment fifty artisans have to go without sleep, or leisure either to eat or drink.

Over the past ten years, Hoey has established himself as one of the world's top instrumental rock guitarists, praised not only for his technical prowess, but even more so for his unique sense of melody and soul. He continues this tradition on "Wake Up Call", but adds a twist–he sings on five tracks. The record also contains four of Gary's most popular previously released songs, all of which were big rock radio hits.

There's little question that Gary Hoey is a talented guitarist, capable of spinning out dizzying solos at the drop of the hat. He has a problem making compelling records, though. His fourth proper studio album, Money – not counting no less than three holiday records and a live album – starts off on the wrong note with a horridly misguided reworking of Pink Floyd's "Money" as a post-Surfing With the Alien instrumental, complete with a wah-wah melody line. Hoey never quite abandons Joe Satriani throughout the album – he really hasn't left him behind once in his career, actually – and the combination of Satch's fluid, rounded technique with a surfer aesthetic is often quite jarring…

Hocus Pocus Live is a dynamic live performance that proves Gary Hoey can replicate his fantastic fretboard trickery with ease in concert. It is true that the versions here aren't radically different from the studio versions – the little differences will only be of interest to guitar fanatics, who will be able to spot the differences between solos – but there's enough energy and fire to his performances to make it worthwhile for Hoey fans who aren't guitar fanatics.

Bug Alley is another showcase for Gary Hoey's exceptional instrumental skills, but it falls short of being the crossover breakthrough he is capable of. Part of the problem is Hoey is more interested in playing guitar than recording an album. He hauls out classic rock chestnuts like "Black Magic Woman" and "Gotta Serve Somebody," "reinterpreting" them by making them blues-rock and hard-rock guitar workouts. Granted, his technique is frequently startling, but too often it sounds like a mutant hybrid of Joe Satriani and Stevie Ray Vaughan's worst tendencies…
