A respected Zen master in Japan and founder of the San Francisco Zen Center, Shunryu Suzuki has blazed a path in American Buddhism like few others. He is the master who climbs down from the pages of the koan books and answers your questions face to face. If not face to face, you can at least find the answers as recorded in Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, a transcription of juicy excerpts from his lectures…

When Shunryu Suzuki Roshi's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind was published in 1972, it was enthusiastically embraced by Westerners eager for spiritual insight and knowledge of Zen. The book became the most successful treatise on Buddhism in English, selling more than one million copies to date. Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness is the first follow-up volume to Suzuki Roshi's important work. Like Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, it is a collection of lectures that reveal the insight, humor, and intimacy with Zen that made Suzuki Roshi so influential as a teacher.

Genre: Progressive Metal

Superb second album from this Brazilian progressive metal band… This near 80 minute packed disc is a loose collection of songs with an existential/zen mind state slant. The direction of the band is a further refinement of their debut - an amalgam of Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation and even Marillion - but with enough of it's own personality that it will easily escape any clone tag. The disc packaging is also very impressive. It features a full color 24 page book, a 28 page comic book, enclosed in a digipak and slipcase. *Highest recommendation*

Even though the term "music therapy" and "relaxation music" is fairly new, the practice of using music to heal, calm and relax can be tracked back to antiquity. We have always used music - during meditation, celebration, during religious ceremonies, in preparation for battle, to sooth and calm newborns - music has always been a source of inspiration, as well as a means of helping to balance our body and mind.

Unless you are lucky enough to be able to escape to a tropical island at the drop of a hat, learning how to deal with stress in a positive way is more important than ever. Zen can help with the stressful gap between wanting things and how things actually are in our life. Zen is about living in the present with complete awareness. Zen can teach us how to live without too much attachment to the outcome of our actions. This does not mean that we are uncaring or do not plan for our life, or that we don't have some general intention or goal in mind. Contrary to this misconception, it actually means that we become very interested in the quality and state of our mind when we do things.
