Where in the World (or Maybe Just the U.S.) Are the New Mastersounds? could be a contest run by this Leeds, England band. From 2011 through 2014 alone, the New Mastersounds released studio albums recorded in Texas, California, and Colorado, as well as a live set performed in Hamburg, Germany. Made for Pleasure was laid down in New Orleans, Louisiana. Versed as they are in a multitude of groove-oriented jazz and R&B forms up through the '70s, the musicians naturally incorporate some acknowledgments of the city's contributions to the genres they honor.

From their inception nearly two decades ago in Leeds, UK, The New Mastersounds have wholeheartedly embraced the “old school” label—their sound rooted deeply in those classic soul jazz, boogaloo and funk albums on labels such as Blue Note and Prestige by artists like Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff and Lou Donaldson. The New Mastersounds’ latest LP, The Nashville Session, takes that devotion one step further by recording in the same tradition that many of those rare groove gems were made.

''Breaks'' marks a new era in the band's sonic landscape by topping their unique syncopated grooves with group vocal stylings. Their new sound has been band tested, fan approved. After a major US festival tour, instead of flying home to England, they diverted to Texas, where they recorded at Sonic Ranch. Sonic Ranch is a residential studio in the middle of a huge pecan orchard, which became the setting for the band s seventh studio album, ''Breaks from the Border''

The crazy idea the label had was to ask to a bunch of talented contemporary funk, nu jazz and broken soul remixers to work on NMS's raw deep funk sound. The result is an absolutely essential compilation full of irresistible nu funk, soul, broken, headz future classics.

In 1976, Trent Batson and Eugene Bergman released their classic Angels and Outcasts: An Anthology of Deaf Characters in Literature. In it, they featured works from the 19th and 20th centuries by well-known authors such as Charles Dickens and Eudora Welty. They also presented less-well-known deaf authors, and they prefaced each excerpt with remarks on context, societal perceptions, and the dignity due to deaf people. Since then, much has transpired, turning around the literary criticism regarding portrayals of deaf people in print. Edna Edith Sayers reflects these changes in her new collection Outcasts and Angels: The New Anthology of Deaf Characters in Literature.
