Something Got Lost Between Here and the Orbit is a 2016 release by Royal Canoe, their second full-length album. It’s been three years since we last heard something new from Canadian indie outfit Royal Canoe. (And even longer since we CoSigned them back at CMJ 2012.) But in the space since releasing their Juno-nominated 2013 record Today We’re Believers, the sextet have kept far from quiet. Between tours with the likes of Alt J and Bombay Bicycle Club and festival appearances the world over, the band worked on finding new and exploratory ways of expressing their percussive take on indie pop.

Today We're Believers is a 2013 release by Royal Canoe, their first full-length album since Co-Op Mode. "Today We're Believers" can easily be seen to be influenced by elements of pop, rock, jazz, and electronic music and uses multiple different unusual time signatures. Some examples include 5/4 on "Exodus of the Year" (charted #19 on Canadian National Alternative charts), 14/8 on "If I Had A House", and 15/8 on "Bathtubs".

Canadian sextet Royal Canoe deliver a bright, percussive style of indie pop, high on multi-instrumentalism and tuneful, layered songwriting. Formed in 2010 from the ashes of several prominent Winnipeg bands, Royal Canoe came together around the songs of frontman Matt Peters, counting acts like OutKast, Beck, and the Knife among their early influences. Along with guitarist Bucky Driedger, keyboardist Matt Schellenberg, bassist Brendan Berg, and dueling drummers Derek Allard and Michael Jordan, Peters and his crew recorded their debut, Co-Op Mode, which was released by Canadian indie Head in the Sand Records. A national tour introduced audiences to Royal Canoe's dynamic stage presence and complex, hooky sound, and in 2012 they followed up with the Extended Play EP.
