Barenboim is an excellent Wagner conductor, and it's a pity his ongoing series of Wagner operas is often forced to make do with less than splendid voices. All the more reason, then, to enjoy this excellent disc of overtures and preludes, all of which are played to the hilt by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and recorded in sound of superb amplitude.

This set of CD is EMI's ultra-low-cost boxed series, although the ultra-low prices, but this series there are still many excellent recordings, such as Ke Luotan's Beethoven Symphony Complete Works, Chiclini's Saty Piano works and so on. In this set of Mahler songs, it is worth noting that Teng Shi Te Te Te's "song of the earth", in its symphony is not included. In addition, the Baker Jazz singing "Luke Te song" and Fisher - Di Si test and Barenboim cooperation piano version of "Junior Magic" is also a very good version. But unfortunately did not include Canta "lament the song", but rather repeated the collection of the symphony of Teng Tate's total in the first 2,3,4 contains vocal movement, so it can not be called A song collection.

The connections between Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim run deeper than the fact that they are both Argentines; Argerich studied with Vincenzo Scaramuzza, who also taught Barenboim's father, and the pianists both have Russian-Jewish-Argentine ancestry. They have the kind of instinctive understanding, coming from shared experiences, that makes for successful duo piano work, and that sets this live recording apart from the majority of superstar pairings.

Otto Klemperer's Beethoven is one of the towering achievements in the history of recordings. By today's standards, these performances are hopelessly old-fashioned: dark, heavy, and frequently very slow. But they are also the grandest, most unsentimental, most purposeful versions in the catalog.

Prior to his highly regarded 2012 Decca release of the Elgar Cello Concerto with Alisa Weilerstein, Daniel Barenboim had made no albums of this composer's music since the 1990s. The acclaim that the Cello Concerto brought seems to have opened up the possibilities of presenting more Elgar, as this 2014 CD of the Symphony No. 2 in E flat major suggests. Performing with the Staatskapelle Berlin, which plays with great vigor and expressiveness, Barenboim explores this piece in light of Elgar's ambiguous situation in 1911, the year he completed the symphony.
