Welcome back sweet scent of freedom. Welcome back Woodstock, you little swashbuckler – Brant Bjork has come to revive your spirit! From the opening guitar shenanigans of his first live album "Europe '16", recorded in Berlin, one can sense a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix that heads to new spheres. This is controlled madness between trippy and doomy, smooth and sludgy. Kyuss- and Fu Manchu legend Brant Bjork delivers lush Stoner Rock with balls of steel, winged by vivid solo guitars and his creaking whiskey tinged voice. In sobriety psychedelic melodies raise to huge groove monsters. The air feels dry from the dust; the inner eye witnesses the setting sun morphing the desert sand into a glowing sea. "Europe '16" lives from exquisite Desert Rock grade A. Live and pure.

Here, over two unique shows from late 1967, we get some of the finest quintet performances from the Miles Davis Quintet during the transition from acoustic to electric. This formation had only been together about a year when these shows were taped (Ron Carter was the last to be added) and the constant evolution of their sound is evident throughout.

"ChangesTwoBowie" is a David Bowie compilation album issued in 1981 by RCA Records. Its title and packaging followed the format of RCA's earlier Bowie compilation, Changesonebowie released in 1976. As well as post-1976 singles, the album collected songs from earlier in Bowie's career that had not appeared on Changesone. However it did not repeat the success of the earlier compilation, reaching #24 on the UK Album Chart and #68 in the United States. The album was briefly available on CD from 1985 but was soon deleted, along with most of his other RCA albums, owing to a conflict between Bowie and the label. The album was not reissued when Rykodisc obtained the rights to re-release the Bowie catalog in 1990.

Recordings of Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, are abundant, and even the pairing with the rarer Robert Schumann Violin Concerto, WoO 23, of 1853 are not as infrequent as they used to be. The thorny Schumann concerto has undergone a reevaluation upward, and plenty of players now concur with the judgment of Yehudi Menuhin: "This concerto is the historically missing link of the violin literature; it is the bridge between the Beethoven and the Brahms concertos, though leaning more towards Brahms." Violinist Carolin Widmann who (like the ECM label on which the album appears) has focused mostly on contemporary music, takes up the challenge of providing something new here, and she meets it. The central fact of the recording is that Widmann conducts the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from the violin. Others have done this before, but few have pursued the implications of the technique as far as Widmann has: the performances are unusually light and transparent, and they are perhaps thus in accord with the sounds an orchestra of the middle 19th century might have produced. Sample the unusually lively, sprightly reading of the Mendelssohn concerto's finale.

Two Hands, One Mouth: Live in Europe is an album by American rock/pop group Sparks, released in March 2013. It is their first ever live album, and first double CD album. In October 2012, Ron and Russell Mael performed for the first time ever as a duo, with no band. The 18-city European tour titled "Two Hands, One Mouth" began in Lithuania and followed in Latvia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, the UK and Ireland. The final UK concert of the tour was at the sold-out Barbican Centre in London. The tour then took the group to Japan with concerts in Tokyo and Osaka in January 2013. In April 2013, the show was presented for the first time in the US with two performances at the Coachella Festival…

The live album Live in Europe/Stage Struck captures Rory Gallagher at his finest, as he tears his way through many of his very best songs. Though the performance quality is a little uneven, there are gems scattered throughout the record, including smoking versions of "Messin' with the Kid" and "Laundromat."

Catalogue / Preserve / Amass is a live album released in 2012 by British musician and record producer Steven Wilson, known for being the founder and frontman of psychedelic/progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. After pre-ordering this a week or so ago, when I got home this evening there it was waiting for me. No doubt I will carry it around with me for days and days, playing little games, like not looking at it for a whole day, and then…looking at it to see if I still liked it…I'm sure I will. The more I look at it, the more I like it…..hang on, haven't I heard that somewhere before?….
