Arriving hot on the heels of the success of Slayer's debut SHOW NO MERCY, this seven-song live release features five tracks from that album, one from the HAUNTING THE CHAPEL three-song EP and another non-album track, "Aggressive Perfector." The heavy sound espoused on the band's debut translates nicely to the stage, and the band proves that it can deliver the goods, with Tom Araya's screams in fine form. With little exception, the songs here pretty much follow the arrangements of their studio counterparts, but they are imbued with the same energy and menace that made the recorded originals so appealing. Considering it would be years before the thrashing foursome would release a full-length live album, LIVE UNDEAD is good for hardcore fans seeking more documentation of Slayer's exciting early period.

Boasting the awesome "Chemical Warfare," a regular staple of Slayer's live shows, the Haunting the Chapel EP was a more crucial stepping stone in the legendary L.A. band's career development than many give it credit for. Issued in between the band's very promising debut and the following year's more sonically ripened Hell Awaits, Haunting the Chapel offers important clues about this transition period, which saw Slayer's rock-based song structures give way to the non-linear, genre-defining style thereafter regarded as thrash metal's signature sound. Among the uniformly solid cuts here, the enduring fan favorite "Captor of Sin" is another highlight, making this a well-recommended release for committed Slayer fans. [by Eduardo Rivadavia, AMG]

Awesome debut album for this Californian proto-thrashcore band, sounding more like a crossover between Venom and Judas Priest, only better than them. Nothing corny to be found here, nothing commercial, nothing accessible, just pure thrash f*cking metal of the highest order with a steroidal injection of NWOBHM.

Slayer had the unenviable task of following up 1986's Reign In Blood, considered among the band's best, however South Of Heaven rose to the challenge and became Slayer's second record to make the Billboard 200 chart and the band's second American gold album. Produced again by Rick Rubin, the material has been called "slightly more mainstream" than Slayer's previous efforts, although no less heavy.

Coltrane Jazz is the sixth studio album by jazz musician John Coltrane, released in 1961 on Atlantic Records. The song "Villa's Blues" is noted as a landmark recording, as it marks the first session date of the early John Coltrane Quartet on record. Featured alongside Coltrane are pianist McCoy Tyner, drummer Elvin Jones, and bassist Steve Davis. On June 20, 2000, Rhino Records reissued Coltrane Jazz as part of its Atlantic 50th Anniversary Jazz Gallery series. Included were four bonus tracks, two of which had appeared in 1975 on the Atlantic compilation Alternate Takes, the remaining pair earlier issued on The Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings in 1995…

Slayer built a rabid following with faster-than-light thrash metal, eerie, disturbing lyrics, and bassist/singer Tom Araya's screamed vocals. 1986's „Reign In Blood“, a blinding metal classic that clocked in at below a half hour in length and was produced by Rick Rubin, put the band on the metal map. Although Slayer was a bunch of longhairs, it wasn't uncommon to see hardcore skinheads slamming away at the band's shows. But 1988's „South Of Heaven“ alienated many of Slayer's punk fans, as the group slowed their speed metal to a Black Sabbath-like crawl.
