It is easy to forget that every development in the history of the American information industry―from the telephone to radio to film―once existed in an open and chaotic marketplace inhabited by entrepreneurs and utopians, just as the Internet does today. Each of these, however, grew to be dominated by a monopolist or cartel. In this path-breaking audiobook, Tim Wu asks: will the Internet follow the same fate? Could the Web―the entire flow of American information―come to be ruled by a corporate leviathan in possession of “the master switch”?

The Internet Age: on the face of it, an era of unprecedented freedom in both communication and culture. Yet in the past, each major new medium, from telephone to satellite television, has crested on a wave of similar idealistic optimism, before succumbing to the inevitable undertow of industrial consolidation.

The Master and the Musician is the title of the first entirely instrumental album by guitarist Phil Keaggy, released in 1978, on NewSong Records. It was later reissued, with a bonus track, on Myrrh Records in 1989. Phil Keaggy's first instrumental album is a groundbreaking piece of work for him as an artist, for the Christian music genre, and for instrumental guitar music in general. Full of emotional twists, meditative sounds, and world-influenced tonalities, The Master & the Musician stands as an oasis in an otherwise barren field of Christian instrumental music. Pieces like "Jungle Pleasures" and "Follow Me Up" are great works in their own right, Christian or otherwise. An excellent work from an excellent musician. Strobie's 2007, 30th Anniversary Edition included a 29-track bonus disc.
